Colombo, 23 October, (Asiantribune.com):

What happened to the balance gold jewels? Has Mahinda disposed of them? This question was posted publicly by M.A. Sumanthiran, the ‘Green Horn’ to Sri Lanka Politics, who has been planted as ‘Party List MP,’ in the midst of Tamils, by R.Sampanthan, Leader of Ilankai Tamil Arasu Kadchchi and Tamil National Alliance – a union of Tamil Armed Groups – rightly declared to this effect recently by Northern Province Chief Minister C.V.Vigneswaran.President Rajapaksa is seen making the token return of gold Jewelry recently– on 12th October at Kilinochchi

When making reference, while handing over a the token return of gold Jewelries recently – on 12th October, at Kilinochchi, which were earlier pawned by people at the so-called Tamil Eelam Bank, President Mahinda Rajapaksa said that the Security Forces managed to take hold of – may be a small portion of the pawned jewellery, which was left behind by the LTTE terrorist leaders, who managed to lay their hands at those jewels, whilst fleeing at the last stages of the battle.

Earlier, a case was reported to this effect, that during the final days of the battle in her attempt to flee to India on 15th May 2009, Sathyadevi – the wife of Sea Tiger leader Soosai had Rs 600,000 cash and 2 kg in gold in her possession, when she was captured by the Sri Lanka Navy, while attempting to escape by boat.

This was one of the known cases of what fleeing LTTE stalwarts and their family members did, whilst trying the flee the epic-centre of the battlefield, at the last stages of the battle.

Recently, Security forces have identified 2,377 “legitimate claimants” and 25 of them were handed back their gold ornaments by President Mahinda Rajapakse, who visited recently to Kilinochchi to hand over 20,000 land permits.

Even, V. Anandasangaree, the veteran Tamil Leader and the Secretary-General of the Tamil United Liberation Front has thanked Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa for returning to the owners the jewellery they pawned earlier in the Eelan banks of the LTTE, without recovering the capital and the interest on the borrowings.

MA Sumanthiran – Party List MPUnfortunately, Sumanthiran who has been planted in the Tamil political arena and who was never heard of at any given time, when war raged up to 19th May 2009, but recently he had the audacity to question Sri Lankan President of his good intention by insinuating with all sorts innuendos.

Whilst speaking at the Jaffna Press Club day before yesterday – 21st October, he daringly asked with tongue in his cheek, “What happened to the balance gold jewels? Has Mahinda disposed of them?”

He went on to say, “Recently President Mahinda Rajapaksa returned only a small portion of the jewels, in the guise of returning jewels that has been taken after the war.

Sumanthiran said those were not the jewels taken possession of, but that has been stolen.

He posed a question that by now five years have elapsed and where all these years, jewels of the Tamils were held? Has the President pawned those jewels? Or has he given to his wife to wear them?

He also asked, “Other than a small portion of the jewels returned, then what happened to balance jewellery? Has the President disposed of it? This is a serious offence.

If not for the immunity that President cannot be challenged in a court of law, but anyhow we know how to obtain responses to our questions- Sumanthiran said.
