The fact that “Obama has even ignored his promise to shut down Guantanamo when terrorist suspects are kept in military custody indefinitely and reintroduced military tribunals” is not a black mark against Obama. What it means is that there are checks and balances in the way the state of the US is governed. The powers of the President, unlike in Sri Lanka, is checked by Congress and the Senate as well as the judiciary. The independence of the judiciary in the US is legendary. You cannot buy justice in US with money or favours. Donald Black is a case in point. So is Rajaratnam who has been jailed for 11 years after the court found him guilty of inside trading. On the contrary, Duminda Silva who was the main suspect in the shooting and killing of Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra instead of getting arrested on a charge of first-degree murder and putting him into jail was flown to Singapore for special medical treatment. All this is because he was a confidant of Gotabhaya Rajapakse to whom he supplied thugs whenever shanty dwellers have to be chased away and their huts destroyed! For his service, Gotabhaya appointed him the MP Monitoring the Defence and Urban Development Authority.
Or take the fractured verdict in the Trial at bar case against Sarath Fonseka. Out of 3 judges Deepali Wijesundara and M.Z. Razeen of the High Court sentenced Sarath Fonseka to three years in prison and a fine of 5000 rupees after founding found him guilty on one charge and dismissing the other 2 charges. However, the third judge W.M.T.B. Warawewa acquitted former army commander Sarath Fonseka of all charges – in a dissenting judgment. He has now fled the country following threats to his life! But Deepali Wijesundara has been given promotion as an appeal court which smacks of favouritism! This is an example that Sri Lankan democracy is a sham and the judiciary is highly politicized. This cannot happen in US Mr Ratwatte!
To any neutral person, it will appear Sarath Fonseka got his deserts because he dared to challenge President Mahinda Rajapakse. Sarath Fonseka said what others were saying in private. That Gotabhaya gave the orders to the field commander to “finish off” all those who surrendered. There was video evidence showing Col. Ramesh being interrogated by army personnel. Later his body with burnt marks was seen lying on the ground with that of Nadesan and Pulithevan. So who killed them except the army? If they were not killed by the army and the video is a fake why don’t you produce them to prove those who accuse Gotabhaya wrong?
It is in Sri Lanka that the government in power appoints a Parliamentary Select Committee to probe the conduct of retired Chief Justice Sarath N. Silva during his often headline-hitting term in that highest judicial post.
So the major difference between American democracy and Sri Lankan democracy is that president Rajapakse is an elected dictator in Sri Lanka. Poor President Obama is a democratic president kept in place by the two arms of government.
Mano Ratwatte’s letter shows he is a slow learner and US democracy has not changed his chauvinism and paranoia.

Dear Sirs,
It is news to me that the “Canadian government has called for an Independent International Investigation into the GENOCIDE, War Crimes, Crimes against Humanity, rapes etc. against the Tamils in Sri Lanka.”
All that Prime Minister Stephen has said is he will not attend the next summit unless the host country, Sri Lanka, does more to face up to what a United Nations expert panel called “credible allegations” that war crimes were perpetrated by the Sri Lankan military as that 25-year-long conflict concluded in 2009. He added “I intend to make clear to my fellow leaders at the Commonwealth that if we do not see progress in Sri Lanka in terms of human rights, I will not as prime minister be attending that Commonwealth summit………… And I hope that others will take a similar position, but I hope that this will pressure the Sri Lankan government to take the appropriate actions.” So there is a big IF in Prime Minister’s statement!
Does the above statement attest to your claim that the Canadian government has called for an independent International Investigation into GENOCIDE (your emphasis) War Crimes, Organization Crimes against Humanity, rapes etc. against the Tamils in Sri Lanka? I think not!
And Foreign Minister John Baird told parliament “ Sri Lanka needs to take accountability for serious allegations of war crimes committed during its 25-year civil war. “Other countries have taken 10 years for reconciliation, other countries never reconcile, but it’s incredibly important.” Baird praised the UN for publishing a recent report on Sri Lanka contradicting the government’s position, a report the minister called “deeply disturbing. Two years after the civil war we’ve seen no meaningful attempt at reconciliation with the Tamil minority.”
Thus both Prime Minister Harper and John Baird have only touched the fringe of the festering ethnic problem. That is a far cry from your tall claim “The Canadian government has called for an Independent International Investigation into the GENOCIDE, War Crimes, Crimes against Humanity, rapes etc. against the Tamils in Sri Lanka.” Such a flattering statement is very misleading if not a downright lie.
For your information CIDA, the government’s foreign Aid Agency claims “After the end of a 25-year ethnic conflict in 2009, Sri Lanka is ready to move forward on its long-term development plan to reduce poverty. The country ranks 97 out of 187 countries on the United Nations Development Programme’s 2011 human development index. Pockets of deep poverty persist in the plantation areas in central Sri Lanka and in conflict-affected areas in the east and north. Unemployment is high, especially among women and youth. Large numbers of internally displaced persons are RETURNING to their villages and homes, but the extensive damage caused by the conflict means they face significant barriers to earning a living. Sri Lanka is a parliamentary democracy, though governance and the rule of law are weak. The country’s ethnic reconciliation and economic rebuilding challenges were compounded by the 2009 economic downturn, which slowed economic growth by almost half―from 7 percent to 4.2 percent―and reduced tax revenues. Economic growth is now beginning to rebound.
“Despite the longstanding conflict, Sri Lanka has made GOOD PROGRESS in health and education, as well as in food self-sufficiency.”
Yet contrary to CIDA’s claim more than 280,000 IDPs have NOT RETURNED to their villages and homes. This is because the Sinhala army has grabbed their lands and homes to build army bases, army cantonments, Buddhist viharas, luxury hotels, coal-fired Thermal Plant (Sampur) and most IMPORTANTLY for Sinhala colonization!
I am not certain what projects CIDA has undertaken in the Northeast of Ceylon. All I know is it has a Board of Directors of about 12 in number all but one are Sinhalese!
What we desire is concrete action, not empty platitudes. And lest we forget Canada contributed to the defeat of our liberation struggle by banning the LTTE within 6 months of coming to power in 2006 and listing WTM as a terrorist organization in June 2008. Thus Canada gave the green light to the Sri Lankan government to carry out genocide against the Tamil people. Harper’s hands are also soaked with the blood of 40,000 innocent Tamils who perished during the last stages of the war in Mullivaaikal in 2009.
Give the devil its due only if it deserves it!

இனவாத சிங்கள அரசு தனது கபட நாடகங்களால் எமது விடுதலை இயக்கத்திற்கும் முன்னைய இந்திய ஆட்சிப்பீடத்திற்கும் இடையே பகைமையை வளர்த்து விட்டது.
இந்தப் பகைப்புலத்தில் எழுந்த முரண்பாடுகள் மேலும் முற்றிப் பெரும் போராக வெடித்தது. இதன் ஒட்டுமொத்த விளைவாக எமது மக்கள் பெரும் அழிவுகளைச் சந்திக்க நேர்ந்தது.
நாம் எமது இலட்சியத்தில் உறுதியாக நின்ற காரணத்தினால்தான் எமது இயக்கத்திற்கும் இந்திய அரசிற்கும் பிணக்கு ஏற்பட்டது.
எனினும், இந்தியாவை நாம் ஒருபோதும் பகை சக்தியாகக் கருதியதில்லை. இந்தியாவை எமது நட்புச் சக்தியாகவே எமது மக்கள் என்றும் கருதுகிறார்கள். எமது தேசியப் பிரச்சினை விடயத்தில் இந்தியப் பேரரசு ஒரு சாதகமான நிலைப்பாட்டை எடுக்கும் எனப் பெரிதும் எதிர்பார்க்கிறார்கள்.
இராசீவ் கொலை, செப்தெம்பர் 11 தாக்குதல், இணைத்தலைமை நாடுகளின் சிறீலங்கா ஆதரவுப் போக்கு போன்றவையே புலிகளின் தோல்விக்கான புறக் காரணிகளாகும்.
சோனியா ஆட்சி பீடம் ஏறிய பிறகே இந்தியா புலி எதிர்ப்பை கையில் எடுத்த்து. பழிவாங்கக் காத்திருந்த சோனியா குடும்பம் சிறிலங்கா வழியாக வி.புலிகளை அழித்து விட்டது.
2009 மேயில் இந்திய அரசியலில் மாற்றம் ஏற்பட்டிருந்தால் இந்தியாவின் வெளியுறவுக் கொள்கை மாறி இருக்கும்.
இன்னும் ஒரு காரணி உண்டு. அது கருணாநிதியின் துரோகம். இனத்தைக் காப்பதை விட தனது பதவியைக் காப்பாற்றுவதிலேயே கருணாநிதி கண்ணாக இருந்தார். தமிழீழ மக்களுக்காக மூன்றாம் முறையும் பதவி இழக்கத் அணியமில்லை என்று சொன்ன தமிழினத் தலைவர் 2011 இல் பதவியை பறிகொடுத்தார். அன்று பதவி துறந்திருந்தால் இன்றும் அவர் முதலமைச்சராக இருந்திருப்பார்.
போரில் மனித வளம், ஆயுத வளம் கொண்ட தரப்பே முடிவில் வெற்றிபெறும். பெரும்பான்மை (74 விழுக்காடு) சிங்களவர்களுக்கு எதிராக தமிழர்களால் (10 விழுக்காடு) போராட முடியவில்லை. நைசீரியாவில் பயவரா கோரி ஆயுதம் ஏந்திப் போராடிய ஈபோ இனம் எண்ணிக்கையில் சிறுபான்மையாக இருந்த்து.
போர்க்காலத்தில் புலிகளிடம் விமான எதிர்ப்பு ஏவுகணைகள் இருந்திருந்தால் கள நிலைமை மாறியிருக்கும்.

சீமானுக்கு இருக்கிற தன்மானம் இனமானம் கருணாநிதிக்கு இருந்திருந்தால் முள்ளிவாய்க்கால் படுகொலையைத் தவிர்த்திருக்கலாம். இரண்டுமுறை ஈழத்தமிழர்களுக்காக பதவியை இழந்துவிட்டேன். இன்னொரு முறை இழக்க நான் தயாரில்லை என்று சொன்ன கருணாநிதி இப்போது பதவி இழந்து எதிர்க்கட்சித்தலைவர் என்ற பட்டத்தையும் இழந்து நடைமெலிந்து இருக்கிறார். இது மற்றத் தலைவர்களுக்கும் ஒரு செமபாடம்.
Dear Prof. Sri Ranjan,
I don’t want to open old wounds, but since my name and office have been specifically mentioned, I am forced to respond to Professor R. Sri Ranjan’s statement On behalf of the CTC Board of Directors.
I take exception to the insinuation “As CTC had feared, on November 24, 2009, CBC reported on this Vaddukoddai referendum process in Canada stating that it is being conducted by LTTE/WTM leaders.”
The learned professor must know that no LTTE/WTM existed at that point in time.
There was no LTTE in Canada and WTM was dissolved following the ban by the government in June 2008. However, I am proud of the fact that I spearheaded the campaign to hold the referendum on VR!
This notwithstanding, why did the CTC “fear” or “watched with interest” on the sidelines about the Vaddukkoddai referendum held in Canada?
It was perfectly a democratic, historical and educational process and exercise meant to reinforce the Thamil people’s political aspirations, especially among the younger generations born after 1959.
If CTC was serious about the referendum on Vaddukkoddai Resolution why did it join the process instead of watching with interest? After all, this was an exercise carried out worldwide with resounding success. People of all walks of life participated in it with unprecedented passion. My 84 years old mother –in – law voted for the resolution since she did not want to miss the historical chance.
In Canada 48,583 (99.82%) voters mandated independent and sovereign Tamil Eelam in the poll conducted in 31 centres across Canada.
The fact of the matter is the CTC did not have the moral fortitude and foresight at that time to endorse the referendum. It thought it will amount to committing political sacrilege!
The Resolution was adopted at the first National Convention of the Tamil United Liberation Front (TULF) on 14 May 1976 presided over by S.J.V.Chelvanayagam. TULF’s participation in the 1977 general elections was anchored on this Resolution. In this Resolution, the TULF declared its intent of “restoration and reconstitution of the Free, Sovereign, Secular, Socialist State of Tamil Eelam, based on the right of self-determination inherent to every nation, has become inevitable in order to safeguard the very existence of the Tamil Nation in this country.”
To the extent the word Nation as perceived through the Vaddukkoddai Resolution is taken as Consciousness of Sovereignty of Tamils as a Community, that resolution still holds value.
At the international press conference held in Kilinochchi on April 10, 2002, the LTTE leader to a question about Thamil Eelam replied “It is our people who put forward this demand for Tamil Eelam. The people gave a mandate to the Tamil United Liberation Front (TULF) for this as early as 1977. We, therefore, with people’s support, are fighting for Tamil Eelam till now.”
I am glad that CTC is now displaying the full text of the Vaddukkoddai Resolution in its office. That is real progress. The VR is a landmark in our history comparable to the Declaration of American Independence exactly two centuries before in 1776! The historic VR will remain the roadmap to independence till we finally reach our destination.
Instead of defending the indefensible, Professor R. Sri Ranjan should be brave enough to admit that the CTC made a tactical blunder by not endorsing the VR and just remaining a placatory observer.
Let us move on with added fervour for our humanitarian assistance to reshape the lives of our people back home from the ashes of devastation and despair.
On the human rights front let us press forward calling for an international investigation into war crimes and crimes against humanity committed by the Sri Lankan government and identified in the report by the UN Panel of Experts.
On the political sphere let us call the international community to recognize the right of self-determination of the Thamil people based on six decades of unjust persecution and genocide. The Thamil people are no different from Kosovans, East Timorians and South Sudanese!

கருணாநிதி முதலமைச்சராரக இருந்தபோதுதான் ஊழலுக்கு தொடக்க விழா நடத்தினார். அதன் விளைவுதான் சர்க்காரியா ஆணைக்குழு. இப்போது கருணாநிதி குடும்பம் முழுதுமே ஊழல் குடும்பம் என்று பெயர் எடுத்துள்ளது. கலைஞர் தொலைக்காட்சிக்கு வந்த பணம் இலஞ்சப் பணம்தான். இராசா கைது செய்யப்பட்ட அன்றுதான் அவசர அவசரமாக வந்த பணத்தை வட்டியோடு கொடுத்திருக்கிறார்கள். திமுக மத்திய அரசியல் அமைச்சுக்களைக் கேட்கும் போது பசை உள்ள அமைச்சுக்களையே கேட்டு வாங்கியது. வெளியுறவு அமைச்சைக் கேட்கவில்லை. அதில் பசை இல்லை என்பது கருணாநிதிக்குத் தெரியும். இந்த நாடகத்தி்ன் தொடக்கம் தினகரன் வெளியிட்ட கருத்துக் கணிப்புத்தான். கருணாநிதி அதை வெளியிட வேண்டாம் என்று கேட்டும் தயாநிதி அதனை வெளியிட்டார். அதனால் மதுரையில் 3 கொலையே வீழ்ந்தது. தயாநிதி மாறன் அமைச்சர் பதவியும் பறிக்கப்பட்டது. கலைஞர் தொலைக்காட்சி தொடங்கப்பட்டது. இப்போது எல்லோரையும் ஊழ்வினை வந்து உருத்துகிறது.
திமுக செஞ்சா தப்பு, அதிமுக செய்தால் பாராட்டா? என கருணாநிதி கேட்கிறார். அப்படியில்லை. கருணாநிதி ஆட்சியில் எதுவும் முறைப்படி செய்யப்படவில்லை என்பதுதான் குற்றச்சாட்டு. ஒரு கிலோ அரிசி ஒரு ரூபாவுக்கு திமுக அரசு கொடுத்தது உண்மைதான். ஆனால் அந்த அரிசி தரமில்லை என்ற குற்றச்சாட்டுப் பரவலாக இருந்தது. ஆனால் அதிமுக கொடுக்கும் முற்றிலும் இலவச அரிசி தரமாக இருக்கிறது என்கிறார்கள். அதிமுக பாராட்டப்படுவதற்கு இதுதான் காரணம்.
The Sinhalese intelligentsia is fed on a diet of chauvinistic lies day in and the day after. They have been mesmerized by the cry that Mahinda Rajapakse the modern-day version of Duttu Gemenu has defeated Prabhakaran the Elladan. And that too under the spurious argument that Prabhakaran was a “terrorist.” No one poses to think about how and why Prabhakaran became a terrorist.
Certainly, he was not born a terrorist with an AK-47 rifle in his hand. It is Sinhala racism that metamorphosed a child of a meek public servant into a freedom fighter. Mahinda Rajapakse may gloat over the fact he has managed to defeat Prabhakaran, but the cause for which he gave his life lives after him in thousand other ways. During the war, the Government tongue in cheek claimed that it has launched humanitarian operations (not military operations) to free Tamils from the clutches of the LTTE. But 2 years later the Tamils live under a brutal occupation army which drives the Sinhala national anthem down the throats of unwilling Tamils. It has ploughed the resting places of war heroes to build military headquarters. It has summarily executed LTTE fighters and raped women cadres who surrendered to the army in their hundreds. It still keeps them in prisons and concentration camps.
There is no freedom of expression or freedom of movement for the Tamils living in the North and east. Tamils have been singled out by the army and police for special registration not applicable to the majority community. The list is endless. Recent history shows many dictators were killed or ousted like Hosni Mubarak of Egypt and Zine al – Abidine Ben Ali. Even the eccentric leader Muammar Gaddafi of Oil-rich Libya who has held the country in a tight grip since he led a bloodless coup in 1969 is on his way out. So how long Mahinda Rajapakse who has been accused of war crimes and crimes against humanity is going to last despite the 18th Amendment which has made him a virtual dictator and president for life?

மகிந்த இராசபக்சே குழந்தைத்தனமாக முள்ளிவாய்க்கால் போரில் ஒரு பொதுமகனாவது கொல்லப்படவில்லை என்று சொல்கிறார். சித்திரவதை எதுவும் கிடையாது என்று முழுப் பூசணிகாயை சோற்றுக்குள் மறைக்கப் பார்க்கிறார். மே பதினாறு – மே பதினெட்டுக்கு இடையில் சரண் அடைந்த வி.புலித் தளபதிகள் சித்திரவதைக்குப் பின்னர் சுட்டுக் கொல்லப் பட்டுள்ளார்கள். அதற்கான காணொளி சான்று இருக்கிறது. ஆனால் மகிந்த இராபக்சே அவை பொய்யானவை எனச் சாதி்க்கிறார். இப்போது அய்யன்னாவே அதனை உத்தியோக அடிப்படையில் வெளியிட்டுள்ளது. சிறிலங்காவில் நடந்தேறிய போர்க்குற்றங்கள், மானிடத்துக்கு எதிரான குற்றங்களில் சோனியா காந்தி, மன்மோகன் சிங், ப. சிதம்பரம், மு.கருணாநிதி ஆகியோருக்கும் பங்குண்டு. இவர்களையும் அனைத்துலக நீதிமன்றத்தில் நிறுத்தி தண்டனை வாங்கிக் கொடுக்க வேண்டும். அப்போதுதான் அநியாயமாக இறந்த தமிழ்மக்களுக்கு நீதி கிடைக்கும்.

The GA Trincomalee and Amparai are also Retd. Sinhala army generals. The army has built several bases and cantonments in the North. 52,000 thousand Thamil IDPs cannot be resettled in Mullaitheevu because the army has grabbed their homes and farm! The fiction that LTTE was not popular with the Tamil people they were kept as hostages and human shields by them is being avowedly promoted by Sinhalese chauvinists. They little realise that the LTTE could not have fought a liberation war for 30 years without the support of the people. As I write this news comes that the Sinhala army is forcing Tamils in Jaffna, Mannar and Vanni to observe Vesak celebrations. They are forced to hang lamps and Buddhist flags. Last year the Sinhala army bulldozed the Martyrs cemetery at Koppai for fallen LTTE cadres and constructed the army headquarters. The great divide between the Sinhalese and Tamils is growing wide day by day. MR despite his boast simply doesn’t have the stomach to solve the ethnic problem. He like the beggar and the wound is thriving using the conflict to entrench himself in power. That is why he dumped the APC report so painstakingly written to the garbage.
In the Mullaitheevu district, 10,000 Sinhala fishermen have been allowed to fish while the Thamil fishermen have been deprived of their livelihood. MR boasts that “After the death of the terrorist leader, we took care of his mother and father. We still look after the families of leaders who surrendered. We were able to protect our country over the centuries from invaders because we did not hate any race, religion or person”. This is nonsense. LTTE leader’s mother and father were taken as prisoners and allowed to rot at Panagoda army camp. The incarceration at the notorious Panagoda Camp resulted in the deterioration of their health. The old couple were kept incommunicado. MR even deprived LTTE’s father of his monthly pension. That showed his mean-spiritedness. Mr Veluppillai died in captivity on January 07, 2010, just under 7 months after his capture. After the death of Mr Veluppillai, Mrs Paarvathi was released and was allowed to go to Malaysia for medical treatment on March 02, 2010.
MR successfully used the label “ terrorism” to demonize and defeat the LTTE. He is now using the same label and calls Diaspora Tamils terrorists. But, this time he cannot succeed. His multi-barrel rocket launchers, rocket and missile launchers, battle tanks and armoured cars cannot reach Europe and America.

Could the Ambassador tell us why there is over 50,000 army, all Sinhalese, stationed in Jaffna two years after the end of the war?
Why you are building cantonments in Vanni when you claim you have decimated the LTTE?
Why should Tamil boys and girls, men and women sing the Sinhala National Anthem and not the Tamil National Anthem?
Why you are still keeping all the HSZs in the North? The army is building luxury hotels in land that belongs to the Tamil people?

G.l.Peiris is a political turn coat. He has proved himself adept at pole-vaulting. First SLFP, then UNP and thereafter back to SLFP. That shows his class! This is the same Peiris who exclaimed that a paradigm shift has taken place when the LTTE announced that they will accept a solution to the ethnic conflict on the basis of internal self-determination. The same man is now a great obstacle to reconciliation and finding an equitable political solution to the festering ethnic conflict. The president must be ashamed of his Foreign Minister, but then that is what you get if you appoint a turncoat and unprincipled stooge as Foreign Minister. This is time for the Tamil Diaspora to expose Mahinda Rajapakse and Co its true colours. That is, the government suffers from the “Mahavamsa mindset” and believes in Sinhala – Buddhist supremacist theory. The Diaspora should close ranks to press home that Mahinda Rajapakse, his brothers and army officers in positions of command refer the ruling class and the officers of the armed force of Sri Lanka should be referred to the International Criminal Court (ICC) to face charges of war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide. We will never get another opportunity to nail Mahinda Rajapakse or send him to the electric chair of his choice.
A bittersweet anniversary for Sri Lanka

Two years have passed since the Sri Lankan armed forces shot and killed Tamil Tiger leader Velupillai Prabhakaran and brought an end to their generation-long conflict, yet the country is still struggling to move on. Allegations of war crimes have not gone away. Nor have calls for a ‘political solution’ – a package of measures to address the perceived grievances of the minority communities. And President Rajapaksa continues to deal with these problems in the same way as he always has done, converting external pressure into increased support for his government domestically.
The publication last month of the report by a panel set up to advise the UN Secretary-General on reconciliation in Sri Lanka reminded us of how little the international community has managed to achieve in the country. It inflamed both Sinhalese and Tamil passions while saying absolutely nothing new.
At best, it will prompt the Sri Lankan government to offer some ‘sweeteners’ to get India on the side – a deal for Indian companies to redevelop the port in Jaffna and build a new power plant in Trincomalee, plus the long-awaited Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement.
The question is – what use is that to Sri Lanka’s Tamils?
Seeing the protests that are now coming up in India and around the world in response to the report by Marzuki Darusman et al – including the statement by Chief Minister Jayalalitha in her first television address after the Tamil Nadu election results were announced – it would be easy to make the mistake of thinking that their situation is as bad today as it was two years ago. That is clearly not the case. Two years ago, 300,000 Sri Lankan Tamils were being held hostage by the LTTE. They were living in tents, having been displaced multiple times from their homes. They had lost all their belongings. Their children were forcibly recruited and sent to the frontlines with less training than a security guard at a mall. They were dying in large numbers. The Sri Lankan army’s shells were landing day and night. It was a living hell.
Today, there are no bombs. More than 280,000 IDPs have been resettled. Children are in schools. This is an achievement for which the Sri Lankan government deserves credit.
The problem is that it is not enough.
President Rajapaksa could have done so much more. He enjoyed unprecedented support within his country in the aftermath of the victory over the LTTE and a ‘wait-and-see’ attitude on the part of foreign governments. Reconciliation was his for the taking.
His first mistake was to perpetuate emergency rules.
Although Sri Lanka’s Emergency Regulations have been relaxed since the end of the war, they are still in force. In the most recent debate on their extension, the Sri Lankan Prime Minister resorted to claiming that the LTTE was running training camps in Tamil Nadu – a claim in support of which he offered no evidence – to justify the continued use of legislation that is meant only for exceptional circumstances.
President Rajapaksa has also made no move to review the Prevention of Terrorism Act, under which an unknown number of people are being held without trial.
The Sri Lankan legal system – like many others – works slowly. Sinhalese and Tamils alike suffer the consequences if they are poor and lack connections. And there is a huge backlog of cases. This is not a problem which can be solved overnight, even in peacetime. However, what can and should be done overnight is to make public a list of detainees. One of the major concerns of Sri Lankan Tamils is to locate their loved ones – some were taken away by the security forces or groups suspected of working with them, while others were simply separated in the chaos of the final stages of the war. Finding out what happened to family members was stressed time and again during the hearings of the Sri Lankan government’s Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission.
President Rajapaksa’s critics are most likely correct in arguing that he is not serious about this commission, which will probably take a long time to report and forever to implement recommendations. This is not just the norm in Sri Lanka but around the world. Nevertheless, the commission is making some contribution to the future of the country by providing a forum – however limited – for Sri Lankan Tamils to raise their voices. It should be encouraged.
The second mistake of the Sri Lankan administration was to interfere in the restoration of democracy in the north of the country.
The LTTE made sure that representative government did not emerge in areas under its influence. Veteran politicians had to follow its line or face death, while candidates despised by the people were imposed on them. Many politicians and civic leaders who opposed the LTTE were killed, leaving Tamil society very much in need of strong characters around whom to rally.
A priority in the aftermath of the war should have been to encourage the growth of Tamil political parties, to reassure people that their aspirations could be met in the mainstream.
The Northern Provincial Council – the level of regional government agreed to with India in the 1987 Indo-Lanka Accord and implemented in every other part of the country – should have been established. President Rajapaksa declared that it was his intention to hold an election as soon as possible, but it is yet to happen. Instead, he advanced the presidential poll by a year to January 2010 to consolidate his own position.
Then in April 2010 when the results of the parliamentary poll showed that the Tamil National Alliance was a force to be reckoned with, winning the support of more people in the North and East of Sri Lanka than any other group and becoming the third largest party in Parliament, President Rajapaksa should have invited them for talks. He did so only in January 2011, and he has since allowed the process to drag.
Meanwhile, reports indicate that he has sidelined the Eelam People’s Democratic Party – the main Tamil party in his own coalition, whose leader Minister Douglas Devananda was nearly killed by the LTTE on many occasions.
This is not so much about suppressing Tamils as it is about promoting the president.
Indeed, it is clear that this is what President Rajapaksa has had uppermost in his mind ever since the end of the war. Although he claimed to want to change the constitution to address minority aspirations, the only amendment that has been passed vested more power in the president while making it possible for him to stand for election as many times as he wants. What’s more, it was rushed through parliament as an ‘urgent’ bill.
This is all very disappointing, but we need to ask whether the current course is set by the international community is going to make things any better.
Threats of economic sanctions if President Rajapaksa is not handed over for prosecution – such as that issued by Chief Minister Jayalalitha last week – are worse than useless. Such a call is not even supported by the Opposition in Sri Lanka. It will serve only to further polarise a society that is already divided by so many years of war.
Sinhalese have already begun to ask why they should forgive and forget the excesses of the LTTE when Tamils are not willing to put their suffering at the hands of the government forces behind them, even after two years. Whether this is a reasonable reaction is another matter. It is a fact of life. Attempting to drag the president before the International Criminal Court will only undermine support for what little efforts President Rajapaksa has been making at reconciliation – small steps to implement the language policy, to recruit more Tamils to the civil service, police and armed forces, and to provide training and reintegration assistance for former cadres – and instead tighten his grip on power.
What Sri Lankans need now is to be left alone. People in other countries playing politics with their lives is not the path to lasting peace but to further bloody conflict. And surely the country has had enough of that.

On the contrary, they found it safe to move into LTTE held area. This is an undeniable truth which is amply confirmed by subsequent events. Those who surrendered were shot to death in their hundreds, if not in thousands by the Sinhala army. There are hundreds of photographic pieces of evidence of not only surrendered LTTE cadres, but even civilians summarily executed. If the writer of this article denies this, then he must tell us the fate of Karikalan, Ilanthirayan, Ilanumaran, Lawrence Thilakar, poet Rathnathurai, Balakumar and his son and many others who surrendered to the army on the 17th of May, 2009. The LTTE was ready to hand over the people trapped in Mullivaaikal to a third party like the UNO or Red Cross. The Sinhala government said no. It insisted they have to surrender to the army. A few in LTTE territory might have ventured to go into army territory at their own risk. But the majority stood their ground. After all the fighters were their own sons and daughters. This writer must stop demonizing the LTTE to serve his paymasters.

For temporary gains from the king and his brother, these men have betrayed their nation, professionalism and conscience. When journalists become prostitutes — blood-sucking becomes the norm of the day. During the post-war the period he is increasingly leaning toward President Rajapakse and intervened several times on behalf of his beleaguered media colleagues who were at the receiving end of the administration. His new stance has been severely criticized by progressive sections of the media who were forced to go into exile due to their anti-government activities.

It is a case of defending the indefensible. The setting off firecrackers, taking out parades, waving the lion flags, taking busloads of Sinhalese to Jaffna at government expense, the erection of Buddhist viharas and statues along Highway 9 and beyond, thrusting of Sinhala anthem down the throats of Thamil students, the appointment of Sinhala governors to the North and east reminiscent of the colonial era, the bragging that Rajapakse is the reincarnation of Duttu Gemenu – if these are not signs of triumphalism what else is?
It was not the intention of the LTTE to use the people as a human shield. The LTTE offered to hand over the people as early as March 2009 to a third party like the Red Cross. They did not want them to be handed over to the Sinhala army consisting of barbarians. The LTTE’s reservations have been proved dead right seeing the fate of the LTTE surrenders. There is solid photographic evidence now in hand that those who surrendered were tortured and subsequently killed. So don’t try to be smart by comparing Prabhakaran with Osama Bin-Laden a religious fanatic who wants to establish Islam throughout the length and breadth of the world. The assassination of Osama Bin Laden by the US cannot be equated with the killing of several hundred LTTE cadres who surrendered to the Sinhala army. The gruesome pictures taken by none other than soldiers who witnessed the torture and killing are damning evidence against the Sri Lankan state that it committed war crimes and crimes against humanity even after the war ended. The Sinhala army consists of barbarians who don’t even spare cemeteries of fallen LTTE cadres. Is it reconciliation to build Army Headquarters by destroying cemeteries and forcing Tamils to sing Sinhala national anthem down their throats?
So Prabhakaran is a terrorist who killed 50,000 people and he never enjoyed the support of his people except for the Thamil Diaspora. This is a canard unworthy of an ex-comrade who himself took arms against a “lawful” government. For the information of ex-comrade, Victor Ivan Prabhakaran enjoyed mass support. It is mass support that distinguishes a terrorist and a freedom fighter. Again the widely held perception among the Tamils is that beneath the skin of every Sinhalese there lies a racist!
In the early and middle part of May 2009, the Liberal Party committed political hara-kiri when Michael Ignatieff prevented Liberal MPs who wanted to address the large rallies held in Ottawa in biting cold. The reason for the boycott was that Tamils carried the Thamil national flag with the Tiger symbol. Ignatieff like the Conservative Party considered the LTTE as terrorists. This was not exactly the stand of the Liberal Party under the leadership of Paul Martin. When Bill Graham was the Foreign Minister he refused to ban the LTTE though desperately plodded by the CSIS. It was during those days Thamil people decided to return the compliments and pay the Liberals with the same coin. The Liberals thought they can insult the Tamils as terrorists and still expected them to sheepishly vote for them. Winning the elections with huge majorities made them arrogant and at the same time lulled them into a false sense of security. Suffice to say like the elephants the Tamils too have a long memory.

தமிழ்நாட்டில் இதுவரை பரவி வந்த நோய் ரொறன்ரோவுக்கும் வந்துவிட்டது. அதற்கு வணிகம்தான் காரணம். மக்களது மூடத்தனத்தை பயன்படுத்தி நகைக் கடைகள் தங்கள் விற்பனையைப் பெருக்கிக் கொள்கிறார்கள். இந்தக் கொள்ளையில் தொலைக்காட்சி போன்ற ஊடகங்கள் ஒத்துழைக்கின்றன. ஊட்கங்களுக்கு வேண்டியது பணம். அது எப்படி வந்தாலும் அவை கவலப்படுவதில்லை.
நான் குறிப்பிடுவது அட்சய திரிதியை பற்றிய மூடநம்பிக்கை. “அட்சயம்’ என்றால் “குறைவில்லாதது’ என்று பொருள். இந்த நாளில் எப்பொருளை வாங்கினாலும் அப்பொருள் நம் வீட்டில் குறைவில்லாமல் பெருகிவிடுமாம். அதனால் அட்சய நாளில் ஒரு குண்டுமணி தங்கம் ஆவது வாங்க வேண்டும் என்ற எண்ணம் நிலைத்துவிட்டது.
இந்துமதத்தில் மூடநம்பிக்கைகளுக்கு எல்லை கிடையாது. எதற்கெடுத்தாலும் நாள், நட்சத்திரம் பார்ப்பது, அருச்சனை செய்தால் அருள் கிடைக்கும் என நம்புவது, கங்கையில் மூழ்கினால் சொர்க்கம் கிடைக்கும் என்பது சுத்தமான மூடநம்பிக்கைகள்.
தமிழ்நாட்டில் அட்சய நாளன்று நகைக் கடைகளில் தங்கம் வாங்கும் கூட்டம் அலைமோதும்.
The Liberals have been losing Thamil votes from the time they arrested Suresh Manickavasagam on charges he was a member of an organization (LTTE) engaged in terrorist acts in 1995. As all know there was not a single terrorist act by the LTTE or its supporters in Canada, but raising finance for Non-citizens was considered a “terrorist act.” The Liberals after opposing tooth and nail the amendment to section 19 of the Immigration Act took advantage of the same amendment described by the then Sergio Marchi as “draconian” and the trial is by a “kangaroo court” to arrest Suresh who was a refugee claimant. He was in prison for 2 years and faced deportation to Sri Lanka. The Government lawyers argued quite unashamedly that the national security interests of Canada outweigh the individual interests of Suresh. This despite Canada being a signatory to the UN Convention Against Torture! Suresh’s Lawyer Barbara Jackman went all the way to the Supreme Court which asked the government to review the risk to Suresh’s life if he is to be deported to Sri Lanka. At that time Lakshman Kadirgamar was the Foreign Minister and he gleefully told the press that he is “anxiously waiting for the big fish” to come to Sri Lanka! That interview came handy and was used in defence of Suresh.
The demise of the Liberal Party was coming slowly, but it failed to sense the mood of the Tamils. The refusal by the Liberal MPs to appear on the platform on the spurious grounds that the Tiger flag was the flag of a proscribed organization delivered the coup de grace! It did not sit well with the Tamils. Ragavan Paramsothy lost the elections for two reasons. (1) His own Conservative Minister publically said it was a mistake on the part of the party to have approved his nomination despite his pro-LTTE stance. (2) The Globe and Mail which endorsed the Conservative Party gave negative publicity to Ragavan notwithstanding the fact he was a Conservative candidate. He lost to an NDP candidate who came third last time in 2008. To the credit of the Tamils, 90% voted against Liberals and Conservatives. In hotly contested ridings Tamils did vote for Liberals to prevent win by Conservatives. The Liberal candidate for Markham Unionville won by a mere 1105 votes over his Conservative opponent due to strategic voting by Tamils. The NDP came third in this riding. As usual, the Conservative Party kept a respectable distance from the Tamils, but they assiduously courted the Sikh community which dominated at least 3 seats in the GTA. In ridings where there was a close race, Thamil votes will be a factor in future elections. Conservatives, like the Liberals, will ignore the Thamil community only at their peril.

வாழப்பிறந்தவனுக்கு வடக்கு: செல்வம், பொன், பொருள், வியாபாரம், தொழில் அபிவிருத்தி ஆகியவற்றை அருள் பவர் லட்சுமி குபேரர். “குபேரன்’ என்றால் “செல்வத்தைப் பெருக்குபவன்’ . இலங்கையை ஆண்ட ராவணனின் தம்பி குபேரன். இவர்களின் தந்தை விச்ராவசு. குபேரன் மிகச் சிறந்த சிவபக்தன். சிவபெருமானைத் தியானித்து பலகாலம் தவம் செய்து வந்தான். சிவபெருமான் அவனை வடதிசைக்கு அதிபதியாக நியமித்து ஆளச் செய்தார். அன்று முதல் வடதிசைக்கு ஏற்றம் உண்டானது. “வாழப் பிறந்தவனுக்கு வடக்கு’ என்ற சொல்வழக்கு உண்டானது இதனால் தான்.நவக்கிரகங்களில் பொன்மனம் படைத்தவர் குரு. இவருக்குரிய திசை வடக்கு. குருவின் பார்வை பட்டால் கோடி நன்மை என்று குறிப்பிடுவர். குபேரனுக்குரிய விமானம் குபேரவிமானம். இவ்விமானம் எங்கு பறந்து சென்றாலும் பொன்,முத்து, நவமணிகளைச் சிந்திக் கொண்டே செல்லும். அந்த விமானத்தை குபேரனிடம் இருந்து ராவணன் பெற்றுக் கொண்டதாக ராமாயணம் கூறுகிறது.
குபேரன் சிவந்தநிறமும், குள்ளமான உருவமும், புஷ்டியான செல்வச்செழிப்பும் கொண்டவராக இருக்கிறார். குபேர பட்டினத்திற்கு அழகாபுரி என்று பெயர். அத்தாணி மண்டபத்தில் தாமரை மலர் மீது மீனாசனத்தில் மெத்தையின் மீது குபேரன் அமர்ந்திருப்பார். முத்துக்குடை அவர் மீது சுழன்று கொண்டிருக்கும். திருப்பதி வெங்கடாஜலபதி- பத்மாவதி திருமணத்திற்குப் பணம் தேவைப்பட்டது. பெருமாள் குபேரனை அழைத்து உதவும்படிவேண்டிக் கொண்டார். “”என்னிடம் உள்ள செல்வத்திற்கு எல்லாம் அதிபதி திருமகளே. அவளோ உம் மார்பில் குடியிருக்கிறாள். அதனால், என்னிடம் செல்வம் கேட்டுப் பெற வேண்டியதில்லை,” என்று லட்சுமி குபேரர் மறுத்துவிட்டார்.
திருமால் கலியுக தர்மத்தை தான் கடைபிடித்துத் தான் ஆகவேண்டும். அதனால், 114 லட்சம் பொற்காசுகளைக் கடனாகத் தரும்படி வேண்டிக் கொண்டார். அதற்கு ஒவ்வொரு மாதமும் வட்டி செலுத்துவதாகவும், கலியுகத்தின் முடிவில் அசலை மீண்டும் லட்சுமி குபேரருக்கு தந்துவிடுவதாகவும் சொல்லி கடன்பத்திரத்தில் கையெழுத்து இட்டார். அந்தப் பத்திரத்தில் பிரம்மாவும், சிவ பெருமானும் சாட்சி கையொப்பம் இட்டனர். வெங்கடேசப்பெருமாள் வட்டிக் கட்டுவதற்காக நாம் உண்டியலில் பணம் போடுகிறோம். அதற்கு ஈடாக பலமடங்கு அருளை நமக்குத் திருப்பி அருள்கிறார். அட்சய திரிதியை அன்று செல்வ வளம் தரும் லட்சுமி குபேரரை வழிபட்டால் வீட்டில் செல்வத்திருமகளின் அருள் பெருகும்.

கேபி தலைவரின் வலது கை இடது கையாக விளங்கினார் என்பதில் கருத்து வேற்றுமை இல்லை. இடையில் இயக்கத்தில் இருந்து ஓரங்கட்டப்பட்ட கேபி 2009 சனவரியில் தலைவரால் அனைத்துலக உறவுகளுக்கான பொறுப்பாளர் ஆக நியமிக்கப்பட்டார். களத்தில் நின்ற சூசை சொன்னதை வைத்துத்தான் தலைவர் உயிரோடு பத்திரமாக இருக்கிறார்என கேபி சொன்னார். பின்னர் தலைவர் கொல்லப்பட்டார் என்பதை அறிந்ததும் அவ்வாறே அறிவித்தார். அவர் விட்ட பிழை தன்னைத்தானே தலைவரின் வாரிசாக நினைத்துக் கொண்டு அறிக்கை விட்டதும் இயக்கத்தினால் ஒழுங்கு நடவடிக்கைகளுக்கு உள்ளான பலரை மலேசியாவுக்கு வரவழைத்து இயக்கத்தை தனது கட்டுப்பாட்டுக்குள் கொண்டுவர முயன்றதும் ஆகும். அவர் தலைமைப் பதவியை வலியச் சென்று தனதாக்கிக் கொண்டிருக்கக் கூடாது. மலேசியாவில் இருந்து கொண்டு தனக்குப் பிடித்தமானவர்களை வரவழைத்துப் பேசியதன் மூலம் அவரது இருப்பிடம் சிறிலங்கா புலனாய்வுத் துறைக்கு மட்டுமல்ல மற்றவர்களுக்கும் தெரிய வந்தது. இப்போது கைதியாக இருக்கும் கேபியால் அரசு போடுகிற தாளத்துக்கு ஆட வேண்டிய நிர்ப்பந்தத்தில் இருக்கிறார். அவர் இப்போது பரிதாபப்பட வேண்டிய மனிதர்.

அப்படியெல்லாம் தனது பதவியை சுலபமாகத் துறக்க கருணாநிதி முன்வர மாட்டார். பல்லாயிரக் கணக்கான தமிழர்கள் பொட்டுப் பூச்சிகள் போல் செத்து மடிந்து கொண்டிருந்த போது தனது மகன். மகள், பேரன் ஆகியோருக்கு அமைச்சர் பதவிகள் வாங்கிக் கொடுக்க தில்லிக்குப் போய் கூடாரம் அடித்து பேரம் பேசிக் கொண்டிருந்தார். போரின் இறுதிக் கட்டத்தில் “மத்திய அரசின் நடவடிக்கைகள் எனக்குத் திருப்தி தருகிறது” என கிளிப்பிள்ளை மாதிரி சொல்லிக் கொண்டிருந்தார். அப்படிப்பட்டவர் இப்போது தனது பதவியை தூக்கி எறிவார் என்பது கற்பனையிலும் நடக்காது.
சகோதர யுத்தம் சகோதர யுத்தம் என்று கருணாநிதி புலம்புகிறார். ஆனால் விடுதலைப் புலிகளை ஓரங்கட்டி ரெலோ போன்ற அமைப்புக்களை ஆதரித்து சகோதர யுத்தத்தை தொடக்கி வைத்தவரே கருணாநிதிதான். புலிகளுக்கு எம்ஜிஆர் 4 கோடி உரூபாயை தனது சொந்தப் பணமாகக் கொடுத்தார். கருணாநிதி 50,000 உரூபாயை மட்டும் நீட்டினார். புலிகள் யார் கொடுத்த பணத்தை வாங்குவார்கள்? கருணாநிதி புலிகளுக்கு எதிரான நிலைப்பாட்டை எடுப்பதற்கு இந்த நிகழ்ச்சி ஒரு காரணம். இன்னொரு காரணமும் இருக்கிறது. தமிழினத் தலைவன் என்ற பட்டம் தனக்கு இருக்க பிரபாகரன் என்ற “பயல்” அதை புடுங்கிப் போடுவானோ என்ற பயம். “அந்தப் பயலைப் போய் தமிழர்களுக்குத் தலைவன்” என்கிறார்களே என்ற
கருணாநிதியின் பொறாமை.
தமிழர்கள் ஆயுதம் ஏந்தவைத்ததற்கு சிங்களவர்களது இனமத வெறியே காரணம். தமிழர்கள் ஆயுத பலம் கொண்டு அடக்கப்பட்ட போது தமிழ் இளைஞர்கள் ஆயுதம் ஏந்திப் போராடத் தள்ளப்பட்டார்கள். இந்திரா காந்தியே அவர்களுக்கு ஆயுதங்களையும் பயிற்சியையும் அளித்தார். ஒரு கொலைக்கு இரண்டு இலட்சம் தமிழர்கள் கொல்லப்பட்டதற்கு சோனியா காந்தியே காரணம். கருணாநிதியே உடந்தை. இலங்கைக்கு அனுப்பப்பட்ட இந்திய இராணுவம் பன்னீராயிரம் தமிழர்களைச் சுட்டுக் கொன்றது. பெண்களைக் கற்பழித்தது. அதில் ஒருவர்தான் இராசீவ் காந்தியைக் கொன்றார். இதுதான் உண்மை.

Is it not better to ignore the “handful”? Again the spurious claim “Ragavan Paramsothy will pump millions of dollars for election expenses for Conservatives, who has a vast LTTE wealth behind them…………..”. If this is a fact why the millionaire is working for a few thousand rupees? Why did the enterprising correspondent of the Asian Tribune locate the wealth or ask the RCMP to locate it? This type of cheap and scurrilous propaganda can emanate only from mentally sick people.
Can Vasant cite a single case – only one – of a terrorist act committed by Tamils in Canada?
I suspect the correspondent is not a Thamil but Sinhalese hiding his real identity.
Again to say that the Conservative Party will be overrun by a few Tamils is a supreme insult to the CP itself.

Dear editor,
I am very disappointed that you have thought it fit to devote 3 full pages to an article written by Usha Sriskandarajah titled OHHHHHH Please remove the guns! Surely, the good editor has more pressing issues like the Sinhala army occupation of the Northeast, the state-aided colonization, enforced disappearances (50 Tamils disappeared in one month in the Jaffna peninsula) the mushrooming of Buddhist viharas, statues, temples etc. the incarceration of Thamil IDPs two years after the war, the refusal by the government to resettle the IDPs in their original homes (there are 17,000 Tamils living on the roadside in Sampur) and the denial of fundamental rights of our people.
This title is a supreme insult to the 40,000 martyrs who gave up their precious lives to win freedom for our people. It is more so when some elites sitting in air-conditioned rooms in salubrious climes cast aspersions and denigrate the flag soaked with the blood of our dear martyrs.
The flag is not a subject for polemics in a newspaper like the Tamil Mirror committed to the Tamil Eelam cause. So I thought. It will be an exercise in futility, wasting time and effort to discuss changing the flag.
The author of the article wrote to me that since the subject is controversial and creates dissension she will drop it. But, apparently, she did not. The saying that victory has many fathers, but defeat is an orphan appears to be true in this instance.
What is next? Demonize the LTTE and the armed struggle as an “ugly face” of our history and disown them as Dr.Karunyan Arulanantham did today at the seminar on Sri Lanka at Maxwell School of Syracuse University, NY. in which Sri Lanka’s UN Ambassador Dr Palaitha Kohana and Tamil American Peace Initiative’s Dr Karunyan Arulanantham participated? There was another memory lapse. When Dr Kohana claimed that the Citizenship Bill was passed with the support of the Thamil parliamentarians Dr Karunyan countered by citing Chelvanayakam’s opposition to the bill. He failed to mention that all 7 parliamentarians representing the hill country Tamils voted against the bill. Contrary to the popular perception that G.G.Ponnambalam voted for the bill, he too voted against it, though he joined D.S.Senanayake’s cabinet within a month of the bill becoming law! He was secretly negotiating to join the cabinet of D.S.Senanayake while going through the motion of opposing the bill. He did not speak during the debate on the bill. After joining the cabinet and becoming a Minister he dutifully voted in favour of the Ceylon (Parliamentary Elections) Amendment Act which simply stated only those who are citizens can vote in elections. It was a stab in the back by Ponnambalam whose act of betrayal led the Tamils from one disaster to another rendering a million Tamils of Indian origin voteless and stateless! This is despite his solemn promise in writing that he will fight for the rights of the hill country Tamils.
The new laws distorted the pattern of political incentives, alignments and party competition in the emerging system, and systematically skewed it to favour the most chauvinistic segment of the Sinhalese electorate. This created an intractable dynamic of ethnic outbidding between the two major Sinhalese-dominated parties to attract the Sinhalese voting base, at the expense of the Tamil national minority. It directly contributed to the latter’s alienation, support for secessionism, and the outbreak of ethnic violence and civil war from 1983 – 2009.
I take my hats off to Hamas who when the US labelled them as terrorists said they consider that as an honour!
Who said that the “terrorist” label will be removed, if we remove the guns from the flag? Do you give up or surrender your honour simply because Jack Layton would not accept the flag? Who is he? President of the US?
As far as the majority of the Tamils, including the TGTE and NCCT, are concerned the flag is a non-issue. It is under the Tiger national flag that thousands and thousands
of Eelam Tamils rallied around in 2009 throughout Thamil Diaspora and Thamil Nadu. It is preposterous to suggest that the flag was the reason for the “terrorist” label.
As correctly pointed out by someone the flag was designed by our National leader and any hint that the guns should be removed will not find favour with our people.
Those who think they are Herbivores should not have identified themselves with the armed struggle at all.

The GoSL bragged that it waged not war but human rights operations to free Tamils from the clutches of LTTE terrorists. But even after the defeat of the LTTE, the GoSL is treating Tamils as third-class citizens denying them freedom of movement and free speech. The North is under army occupation and cultivable lands belonging to the Tamils are seized to construct army bases and Buddhist viharas. The JVP though claiming to be a Marxist party took an extreme anti-Tamil stance during the war. The JVP was more vociferous in denigrating the LTTE and Tamils than even the ruling UPFA. Having installed a die-hard ethnic-centric Sinhala – Buddhist president, they now find their ground has been cut under their feet. Having antagonized the Tamils by opposing decentralization of power they can never hope to gain any support among the Tamils. Yes, the JVP will go the way of LSSP and CP who somersaulted on the language issue and lost all credibility as Marxists.

வட கிழக்கில் 5 தேர்தல் மாவட்டங்கள் இருக்கின்றன. வெறுமனே யாழ்ப்பாண மாவட்டத்தில் விழுந்த வாக்குகளை வைத்துக் கொண்டு தமிழ்மக்கள் பெருமளவில் வாக்களிக்கவில்லை – அல்லது அவர்கள் தேர்தலைப் புறக்கணித்துவிட்டார்கள் – என்று சொல்வது நியாயமல்ல. எஞ்சிய 4 மாவட்டங்களில் வாக்களிப்பு விழுக்காடு பின்வருமாறு இருந்தன.

தமிழ்த் தேசியக் கூட்டமைப்பு நாடாளுமன்றத் தேர்தலில் நிற்கலாம் ஆனால் உள்ளுராட்சி மற்றும் மாகாண சபைத் தேர்தல்களில் நிற்கக் கூடாது என்ற கேள்வி
புத்திசாலித்தனமான கேள்வியல்ல. ஒரு மக்களாட்சி முறைமையில் தேர்தல் புறக்கணிப்பு தற்கொலைக்கு ஒப்பானது. சட்ட சபை காலம் தொட்டு தேர்தலைப் புறக்கணித்த போதெல்லாம் தமிழர்களுக்கு அது இழப்பாகவே இருந்தது. 1994 நாடாளுமன்றத் தேர்தல் (10,744 வாக்குகளை எடுத்த இபிடிக 9 இருக்கைள் கிடைத்தன!) மற்றும் 2005 ஆட்சித்தலைவர் தேர்தல் அதற்கு நல்ல எடுத்துக்காட்டு. ததேகூ தேர்தலை புறக்கணித்தால் டக்லஸ் தேவானந்தா, பிள்ளையான், கருணா போன்ற இரண்டகர்களுக்கு உள்ளுராட்சி மன்றங்களையும் வட – கிழக்கு மகாணங்களையும் தங்கத் தாம்பாளத்தில் கொடுப்பதாக அமைந்துவிடும். அதுதான் கேள்வி கேட்டவரின் நோக்கமா என்பது தெரியவில்லை.

தேர்தலில் எத்தனை இடங்கள் என்பதை பெரிய மானப் பிரச்சனை ஆக்கிய கருணாநிதி ஏன் முள்ளிவாய்க்காலில் நடந்த படுகொலைகளைக் கேட்டு மான ரோசம் பிறக்கவில்லை? அப்போது காங்கிரசை கைகழுவி விட்டிருந்தால் தேர்தலில் திமுக அமோக வெற்றி பெற்று மீண்டும் ஆட்சியைப் பிடித்திருக்குமே? பற்றையில் உள்ள கிளியை நம்பி கையில் இருந்த கிளியைப் பறக்க விட்ட கதை போல் எல்லாம் ஆகிவிட்டது.
தமிழ் தேசிய மக்கள் முன்னணி என்பது ஒரு காளான் கட்சி. சென்ற ஆண்டு நடந்த நாடாளுமன்றத் தேர்தல் மழை காலத்தில் முளைத்த கட்சி. அகில இலங்கை தமிழ் காங்கிரஸ் என்ற தனிமனித கட்சி கரைசேராது, அதனை மக்களுக்கு விற்க முடியாது என்பதால் இந்த ததேமமு தொடங்கப் பெற்றது. இதுதான் உண்மை. ஆள் பஞ்சம் காரணமாக வந்தான் போனான் எல்லோரையும் தேர்தலில் போட்டியிட வைத்தார்கள். கட்டுக் காசு இழந்தாலும் டக்லஸ் தேவானந்தாவுக்கு மேலதிகமாக ஒரு இடத்தை தங்கத் தாம்பாளத்தில் வைத்துக் கொடுத்தார்கள். அண்மையில் கூட உள்ளுராட்சி தேர்தலில் வேட்பாளர்களை நிறுத்த செய்தித்தாள் மூலம் விளம்பரம் செய்தது நினைவு கூரத்தக்கது. அப்படியும் ஆட்கள் கிடைக்காததினால் மாகாணசபைத் தேர்தலைப் புறக்கணிக்கிறோம் என்று அறிக்கை விட்டார்கள். அதற்கு அந்தக் கட்சி சார்பில் கஜேந்திரன் சொன்ன சமாதானம் மாகாண அவை 13ஆவது சட்டதிருத்தத்தின் கீழ் உருவாக்கப்பட்ட அவை அதனால் அதனை ஏற்றுக் கொள்ள முடியாது என்றார். அப்படியென்றால் 6 ஆவது சட்டதிருத்தத்தின் கீழ் எப்படி உறுதிமொழி எடுத்து நாடாளுமன்றம் போனார்கள்? இந்தக் கேள்விகளை நாம் கேட்கக் கூடாது. காரணம் இவர்கள் மெத்தப் படித்தவர்கள். 40,000 சவப்பெட்டிகளை அணியமாக வைத்திருங்கள் என்று சிங்கள ஆட்சியாளர்களைப் பார்த்து அறைகூவல் விட்டவர்! ததேமமு கட்சியில் இருப்பவர்களில் இந்த சுப்பிரமணியன்கள்தான் ரொம்ப ரொம்ப அதிகம்!
இந்தப் பதிவுகளை இப்போதுதான் படித்தேன். என் மீதும் சிலர் குறை கண்டு பிடித்துள்ளார்கள். நான் அடிநாள் தொட்டு வ.கோட்டைத் தீர்மானம், நாகதஅ, மக்கள் அவை போன்றவற்றுக்கு முழு ஆதரவு வழங்கினேன். வ.கோட்டை தீர்மானத்தின் அவசியம் பற்றி கனடாவில் நடந்த கூட்டங்கள் அத்தனையிலும் பங்கு பற்றிப் பேசினேன். நாகதஅ க்கு நடந்த தேர்தலின் போது சில முறைகேடுகள் நடந்தது பற்றி என் கவனத்துக்கு கொண்டுவரப்பட்டது. அதன் அடிப்படையில்தான் உருத்திராவுக்கு மின்னஞ்சல் அனுப்பினேன். இதில் என்ன தவறு இருக்கிறது என்பது எனக்கு விளங்கவில்லை. இதில் இருந்து நான் உருத்திரா பிழைவிட்டால் அதனைத் தட்டிக் கேட்கக் கூடியவன் என்ற உண்மை புரிந்திருக்கும். முரளி நடராசா நடத்திய ஆர்ப்பாட்டத்துக்கும் எனக்கும் எந்தத் தொடர்பும் இல்லை. முரளி நடராசா வ.கோட்டைத் தீர்மானத்தை எதிர்த்த போது நான் அவர் நடத்திய கருத்தரங்குச் சென்று வ.கோட்டைத் தீர்மானத்தை ஆதரித்து அது ஏன் மறுவாக்கெடுப்புக்கு விடப்பட வேண்டும் என்பதற்கான காரணங்களை எடுத்துச் சொன்னேன். நான் ஆட்களைப் பார்ப்பதில்லை ஆட்டத்தைத்தான் பார்க்கிறேன். தமிழ்த் தேசியத்தின் பக்கம் எப்போதும் நிற்பேன். தமிழ்ப் படைப்பாளிகள் கழகத்தில் யார் யார் இருக்கிறார்கள் என்று ஒருவர் நையாண்டியாகக் கேட்டிருக்கிறார். தபகழகம் கடந்த தை முதல் நாள் கனடா முருகன் கோயிலில் அரங்கம் நிறைந்த மக்களோடு நடத்திய புத்தாண்டு, பொங்கல், திருவள்ளுவர் பிறந்த நாள் விழாவுக்கு வந்திருந்தால் அவர்களை மேடையில் பார்த்திருக்கலாம். அன்றைய நாள் வண்டிகள் தரிப்பதற்கே இடம் இல்லாது சிலர் திரும்பிப் போக வேண்டி வந்தது. தூய தமிழ்ப் பெயர்களுக்கு ஆயிரத்து அய்ந்நூறு ௦௦ டொலர் பரிசு கொடுத்தோம். வர்ணம் தீட்டும் போட்டியில் கலந்து கொண்ட நூறு சிறார்களுக்கு சான்றிதழும் பரிசும் கொடுத்தோம். ஒன்றில் ஈணத் தெரிய வேண்டும். அல்லது நக்கத் தெரிய வேண்டும். இரண்டும் தெரியாமல் மொட்டையில் மயிர் பிடுங்கினால் எப்படி? வரலாற்று நாயகன் கிட்டுவுக்கு வீரவணக்கம் இன்னார்தான் செய்ய வேண்டும் இன்னார் செய்யக் கூடாது என்ற கட்டுப்பாடு ஏதாவது இருக்கிறதா?
இங்கேதான் சிலர் பிழை விடுகிறார்கள். தமிழ்த் தேசியத்தை நாங்கள்தான் மொத்தமாகக் குத்தகைக்கு எடுத்திருக்கிறோம் என சிலர் அடம் பிடிக்கிறார்கள். அது சரி. கிட்டுவுக்கு ஒன்றுக்கு மேற்பட்ட வீரவணக்கம் நடைபெறுவதற்கு யார் காரணம்? நாகதஅ செயற்பாடுகள் நூறு விழுக்காடு சரியாக நடைபெறுவதாக நான் சொல்ல வரவில்லை. இந்த அனுபமே எல்லோருக்கும் புதிது. தவறுகள் நடந்தால் சொல்லித் திருத்திக் கொள்ளுங்கள். நாகரிகமான முறையில் எதிர்மறுப்புச் செய்யுங்கள். உங்களுக்கு உருத்திரா ஒரு சர்வாதிகாரி அவரைப் பிடிக்காது என்றால் ஒரு நம்பிக்கை இல்லா தீர்மானம் கொண்டு வந்து நிறைவேற்றி அவரது பதவியைப் பறியுங்கள். அதைவிடுத்து சந்துமுனையில் நின்று கொண்டு நரகல் நடையில் எழுதி சேறு அள்ளி வீசாதீர்கள். அது நம்மை நாதே தாழ்த்திக் கொள்ளுவதற்குச் சமம். தமிழ் சமூகத்தில் பொதுப் பணிக்கு தங்கள் நேரத்தையும் நினைப்பையும் செலவழிப்பவர்கள் மிகக் குறைவு. உலகத் தமிழர் இயக்க முன்னாள் பொறுப்பாளர் சுரேஷ் மாணிக்கவாசகம் கைது செய்யப்பட்ட போதும் பின்னர் நீதிமன்றத்தில் விசாரணை நடந்த போதும் உருத்திரா அமெரிக்காவில் இருந்து பல தடவை வந்து அந்த வழக்கை நடத்திய சட்டத்தரணிகளுக்கு உறுதுணையாக இருந்தார். அவர்தான் அமெரிக்காவில் இருந்து பிரான்சிஸ் பொயில் போன்ற யாப்பு அறிஞர்களை அழைத்து வந்து சுரேஷ் சார்பாக சாட்சியம் அளிக்க வைத்தார். வி.புலிகள் பயங்கரவாதிகள் அல்ல அவர்கள் விடுதலைப் போராளிகள் என்பதற்கான சான்றுகளை பத்துக்கும் மேற்பட்ட நிபுணர்களைக் கொண்டு நீதிமன்றத்தில் சமர்ப்பித்தார். மொத்தம் இரண்டு இலட்சம் டொலர் வழக்குக்குச் செலவழிக்கப்பட்டது. ஆனால் உருத்திராவுக்கு எந்தக் கட்டணமும் கொடுக்கப்படவில்லை. அந்த வழக்கின் பின்னர் கனடா உருத்திரா இங்கு வருவதை தடை செய்து விட்டது. இந்த வரலாறு எல்லாம் இப்போது இருப்பவர்களுக்குத் தெரியவே தெரியாது. இங்கு இன்னொரு உண்மையையும் சொல்லியாக வேண்டும். கடந்த ஆண்டு இலங்கையில் நடந்த பொதுத் தேர்தலில் ததேகூ யும் அதன் தலைவர்களையும் தோற்கடிக்க வேண்டும் என்று கூறிக்கொண்டு கத்தியோடும் வாளோடும் கிளம்பிய அதே கூட்டம்தான் நாகதஅ யும் எதிர்க்கிற திருப்பணியில் இறங்கியுள்ளது. அவர்களுக்காக நான் இரக்கப்படுகிறேன்.
திருப்பி பதிவுகளை வாசித்த போது இன்னும் சில குற்றச்சாட்டுக்களுக்கு நான் பதில் அளிக்கவில்லை என்பது தெரிகிறது. “இவரின் இரட்டை வேடம் பதவி மோகம் அம்பலப்பட்டதால் இவரை யாரும் கணக்கெடுப்பதில்லை என்றவுடன் எல்லோரும் கைவிட்ட பழைய சங்கதியில் சங்கூதத் தொடங்கி விட்டார் இந்த நக்கீரன்” என ஒருவர் எழுதியிருக்கிறார். எனக்கு வேடம் போட வேண்டிய அவசியமில்லை. நான் பதவிகளுக்கு ஆசைப்பட்டதும் கிடையாது. ஆனால் பதவி வகிப்பதால் தமிழ்த் தேசியத்துக்கு ஆக்கமும் ஊக்கமும் கிடைக்கும் என்பதால் பத்து ஆண்டுகள் உலகத்தமிழர் இயக்கத்தில் துணைத் தலைவராக இருந்தேன். பின் மற்றவர்களுக்கு இடம் கொடுக்க வேண்டும் என்பதால் அந்தப் பதவியில் இருந்து விலகினேன். மீண்டும் இரண்டாயிரத்து ஏழில் இருந்து இயக்கம் தடை செய்யும் மட்டும் துணைத் தலைவராகப் பணியாற்றினேன். உலகத்தமிழர் செய்தி ஏட்டுக்கு இருபது ஆண்டுகள் தொடர்ந்து எழுதினேன். அரசியல் பலகை, இலக்கியப் பலகை எனது படைப்புக்கள்தான். நான் நாகதஅ இன் இணைப்பாளராக இருந்தேன் என்பது தவறு. கனடா குழுவில் சிறிது காலம் சாதாரண உறுப்பினராக இருந்தேன். அவ்வளவுதான். தமிழ்ப் படைப்பாளிகள் கழகம் எந்தக் காலத்திலும் வீர வணக்கக் கூட்டங்கள் நடத்தவில்லை. அதற்கான அவசியம் இருக்கவில்லை. என்னை யாரும் கணக்கெடுப்பது இல்லை என்பது உண்மை என்றால் பின் ஏன் இந்தச் சன்னதம்? புறந்தள்ளிவிடுவதுதானே? ஆனால் அது முடியாத காரியம். எனக்குள்ள வருத்தம் என்னவென்றால் எதிரியை நோக்கி எய்ய வேண்டிய அம்புகளை நாகதஅ நோக்கி எய்கிறார்கள் என்பதே.
பன்றியோடு சேர்ந்த கன்றும் மலம் தின்னுமாம். ஆட்சி அது தரும் பதவி சுகம் காரணமாக கருணாநிதி திமுக வின் அடிப்படைக் கொள்கைகளை காற்றில் விட்டு விட்டார். முள்ளிவாய்க்கால் படுகொலை நேரத்தில் மனிதசங்கிலி, உண்ணா நோன்பு, இறுதி எச்சரிக்கைத் தீர்மானம், தந்தி என்று பல நாடகங்களை கருணாநிதி நிறைவேற்றினார். அது போல இப்போது காங்கிரஸ் ஆட்சியில் இருந்து விலகுவதாகச் சொல்லப்படுவதும் இன்னொரு நாடகமா என்பது தெரியவில்லை. தமிழீழ மக்களுக்காக பதவி துறந்திருந்தால் கருணாநிதி உலகத் தமிழர்களின் இதயங்களில் இருந்திருப்பார்.
காங்கிரசோடு திமுக கூட்டணி வைத்ததால்தான் அதன் மரியாதை கெட்டது. முதல்வர் கருணாநிதி மீது புலம்பெயர் தமிழர்கள் பயங்கரக் கோபத்தில் இருக்கிறார்கள். முள்ளிவாய்க்கால் படுகொலைகளுக்கு காங்கிரஸ் – திமுக கூட்டணி ஆட்சிதான் முழுக் காரணம். கருணாநிதியை கக்கத்தில் வைத்துக் கொண்டு சோனியா தமிழர்களது வீடுதலைப் போராட்டத்தை அழித்துவிட்டார். பதவி ஆசை காரணமாக கருணாநிதி இனமானத்தை காற்றில் விட்டார். இப்போது துறக்கிற பதவிகளை அப்போது துறந்திருக்கலாம். வருகிற தேர்தலில் இந்த இரண்டு கட்சிகளுக்கும் தண்டனை காத்திருக்கிறது.
தமிழக மீனவர்களைத் தாக்கினால் நான் சிங்கள மாணவர்களைத் தாக்குவேன் என்று அவர் முழங்கியதின் பின்தான் தமிழக அரசு பிணம் வரும் முன் பணம் அய்ந்து இலட்சம் கொடுத்துள்ளது. இலங்கைத் தமிழன் தமிழன் இல்லையா? அப்படி நினைக்கிறவன்தான் தமிழன் இல்லை.
இலங்கைத் தமிழர்களுக்கு சிக்கல்! என்ற தலைப்பில் பி.கனகசிங்கம், வில்லிவாக்கம், சென்னையிலிருந்து எழுதிய கடிதத்தில் பல தவறான செய்திகள் இருக்கின்றன. முதலில் இலங்கையில் உள்ள மற்ற ஏழு மாகாணங்களிலும் இந்திய தமிழர்கள் என, விடுதலைப் புலிகளால் முத்திரை குத்தப்பட்டு, இலங்கை அரசிடம் காட்டிக் கொடுக்கப்பட்டனர் என்பது கடைந்தெடுத்த பொய். இந்திய வம்சா வழித் தமிழர்களை மலையகத் தமிழர்கள் என்றே வி. புலிகள் உட்பட எல்லாத் தமிழ்த் தலைவர்களும் அழைத்தார்கள். வி.புலிகளள் ஆட்சி செய்த வன்னி நிலப்பரப்பில் ஒரு இலட்சம் மலையகத் தமிழர்கள் குடியேற்றப்பட்டார்கள். மற்றது மலையகத் தமிழர்களுக்கு வாக்குரிமை குடியுரிமை இல்லை என்பது இமாலயத் தவறு. தொண்ணுற்று ஒன்பது விழுக்காட்டு மலையகத் தமிழர்களுக்கு பெரிய போராட்டத்தின் பின்னர் வாக்குரிமை குடியுரிமை வழங்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. இவர்களை சிங்கள அரசு மாற்றாந்தாய் மனப்பான்மையோடுதான் நடத்துகிறது. சென்னையில் உள்ள மகாபோதி : மடம் தாக்கப்பட்டதால் மேலும் வெறுப்பு ஏற்படும் என்பது கற்பனை. ஏற்கனவே சிங்களவர்கள் மலைநாட்டுத் தமிழர்களை மட்டுமல்ல ஒட்டு மொத்த தமிழர்களையும் வெறுப்போடுதான் பார்க்கிறார்கள். இதன் எதிரொலியே தமிழக மீனவர்கள் தாக்கப்படுவதற்குரிய முக்கிய காரணமாகும். மகாபோதி மடம் தாக்கப்பட்டதன் எதிரொலியாகவே தமிழக மீனவர்களைத் தாக்க மாட்டோம் என சிறிலங்கா அரசு இறங்கிவந்துள்ளது.

வட -கிழக்கு இன்று இராணுவத்தின் இரும்புப் பிடியில் இருக்கிறது. பயங்கரவாதச் சட்டத்தின் கீழும் அவசரகால விதிகளின் கீழும் இராணுவத் தளபதிகளால் ஆட்சி நடைபெறுகிறது. தமிழ் ஊழியர்கள், அதிகாரிகள் ஆகியோருக்கு இராணுவமே கட்டளை இடுகிறது. தமிழ் ஊழியர்கள் வெறும் பொம்மைகளாகவே இயங்குகிறார்கள்.
உங்களுக்கு ஒன்று தெரிய வேண்டும். கனடிய தமிழ் வானொலி தமிழ்த் தேசியக் கூட்டமைப்புக்கு எதிராக ஒரு பரப்புரைப் போரை நடத்தி வருகிறது. சென்ற தேர்தலில் தேசியத்துக்கான தமிழ் மக்கள் முன்னணி என்ற நொண்டிக் குதிரை மீது காசைக் கட்டி மூக்கை உடைத்துக் கொண்டது. தேர்தலுக்கு முன் அப்படியான ஒரு மலட்டு நிலைப்பாட்டை எடுத்தார்கள் என்றால் தேர்தலுக்குப் பின்னும் அது தொடர்கிறது என்பதுதான் சோகம்!
உள்ளுராட்சி தேர்தலில் கனடிய தமிழ் வானொலியின் “பஞ்சகல்யாணிக் குதிரை” ஓடும் என்று பார்த்தால் தொடக்கத்திலேயே அது கீழே படுத்துவிட்டது. கேட்டால் யாழ்ப்பாணம் இராணுவத்தின பிடியில் இருக்கிறது அங்கு கொலை கொள்ளை நடக்கிறது தேர்தலுக்கான சூழ்நிலை இல்லை எனவே தேர்தலை புறக்கணிக்க முடிவு செய்து விடடோம் என்று சொல்கிறது. இது ஆடத் தெரியாதவள் கூடம் கோணல் என்று சொன்னவள் கதையை நினைவு படுத்துகிறது. இதுபற்றி உங்களை நேர்காணல் கண்ட அறிவிப்பாளர் ரவீன் கேள்வி கேட்க வசதியாக மறந்து விட்டார்! இன்னும் ஒன்று. தங்களது பாட்டுக்கு தாளம் போடும் அரசியல் ஆய்வாளர்களையே காற்றலைக்கு கொண்டு வருகிறார்கள். திரு துரைரத்தினம், வரதராசா, நிலவன் போன்றோரை – தங்கள் பாட்டுக்குத் தாளம் போட மறுப்பவர்களை – ஓரங்கட்டிவிட்டார்கள்!
அது சரி. எத்தனை நாளைக்கு யாழ்ப்பாணத்தில் வாக்களித்தவர்கள் தொகை மிகக் குறைவு என்று சொல்லிக் கொண்டிருக்கப் போகிறீர்கள்? வட – கிழக்கில் 5 தேர்தல் மாவட்டங்கள் இருக்கின்றன. யாழ்ப்பாணத்தை மட்டும் ஏன் தூக்கிப் பிடிக்கிறீர்கள்? ஏனைய மாட்டங்களில் போடப்பட்ட வாக்கு விழுக்காட்டை ஏன் நீங்கள் கணக்கில் எடுப்பதில்லை? அது உங்களுக்கு சாதகமாக இல்லை என்பதுதானே காரணம்?

யாழ். தேர்தல் மாவட்டத்தைப் பொறுத்தவரை ஜனாதிபதித் தேர்தலில் தமிழ்த் தேசியக் கூட்டமைப்பின் ஆதரவு பெற்றிருந்த பொன்சேகாவுக்குக் கிடைத்த வாக்குகளை விட, பொதுத் தேர்தலில் தமிழ்க் கூட்டமைப்புக்குக் கிடைத்த வாக்குகள் சுமார் 40,000 குறைவானது என்பது உண்மையே. மக்களின் அக்கறையின்மை, அதிருப்தி, உட்கட்சிக் குழப்பங்கள் போன்றவை இதற்குக் காரணமாக இருக்கலாம். ஆனால் இந்த 40,000 வாக்குகளில் இருந்து அய்க்கிய தேசியக் கட்சிக்கும் சுயேட்சைக் குழுக்களுக்கும் விழுந்த வாக்குகளை கழிக்க வேண்டும். மேலும் யாழ்ப்பாணத்தில் 23.33 விழுக்காடு வாக்காளர்களே வாக்களித்தார்கள் என்று சொல்வது தவறு. யாழ்ப்பாணத் தேர்தல் மாவட்டத்தில் மொத்தம் 721,359 எண்ணிக்கையுள்ள வாக்காளர்கள் இருக்கவில்லை. அண்மையி்ல் எடுத்த புள்ளி விபரத்தின் போது 300,000 வாக்காளர்கள் வாக்காளர் இடாப்பில் இருந்து நீக்கப்பட்டுள்ளார்கள். அப்படிப் பார்க்கும் போது யாழ்ப்பாணத்தில் 39..94 விழுக்காடு வாக்காளர்கள் வாக்களித்துள்ளார்கள்.
வட கிழக்கில் 5 தேர்தல் மாவட்டங்கள் இருக்கின்றன. வெறுமனே யாழ்ப்பாண மாவட்டத்தில் விழுந்த வாக்குகளை வைத்துக் கொண்டு தமிழ்மக்கள் பெருமளவில் வாக்களிக்கவில்லை – அல்லது அவர்கள் தேர்தலைப் புறக்கணித்துவிட்டார்கள் – என்று சொல்வது நியாயமல்ல. எஞ்சிய 4 மாவட்டங்களில் வாக்களிப்பு விழுக்காடு பின்வருமாறு இருந்தன.

தமிழ்த் தேசியக் கூட்டமைப்பு நாடாளுமன்றத் தேர்தலில் நிற்கலாம் ஆனால் உள்ளுராட்சி மற்றும் மாகாண சபைத் தேர்தல்களில் நிற்கக் கூடாது என்ற கேள்வி
புத்திசாலித்தனமான கேள்வியல்ல. ஒரு மக்களாட்சி முறைமையில் தேர்தல் புறக்கணிப்பு தற்கொலைக்கு ஒப்பானது. சட்ட சபை காலம் தொட்டு தேர்தலைப் புறக்கணித்த போதெல்லாம் தமிழர்களுக்கு அது இழப்பாகவே இருந்தது. 1994 நாடாளுமன்றத் தேர்தல் (10,744 வாக்குகளை எடுத்த இபிடிக 9 இருக்கைள் கிடைத்தன!) மற்றும் 2005 ஆட்சித்தலைவர் தேர்தல் அதற்கு நல்ல எடுத்துக்காட்டு. ததேகூ தேர்தலை புறக்கணித்தால் டக்லஸ் தேவானந்தா, பிள்ளையான், கருணா போன்ற இரண்டகர்களுக்கு உள்ளுராட்சி மன்றங்களையும் வட – கிழக்கு மகாணங்களையும் தங்கத் தாம்பாளத்தில் கொடுப்பதாக அமைந்துவிடும். அதுதான் கேள்வி கேட்டவரின் நோக்கமா என்பது தெரியவில்லை.

After the elections were over, R.Sampanthan made an appeal to all the parties to join the TNA to fight for the Tamil people’s rights.
Only Anandasangary and Sidarththan have joined the TNA.
I don’t think Gajendrakumar is in the mood to join the TNA. He said the TNPF(?) has differences in policies and therefore it cannot join forces with TNA.
The ball is in TNPF court. You should ask them and not us to come together. Gajendrakumar is persisting in his folly. Obviously, he does not understand the ground reality. Our people are asking for food, water, shelter, and medicine not federal, confederal or Thamil Eelam.
That is why people rejected the TNPF and poor TNPF came a poor fourth losing deposit.
Gajendrakumar is doing politics courtesy of CTR airwaves. Did he go to Vanni camps to see the people? How many days he is spending in the North or East or both?
You cannot do politics like Vikramathiththan for six months in London and six months in Colombo 7. Do you?
Asking TNA to come together is preaching to the convert. The ball is in your court. I can give Sampanthan’s Tel # and Gaajendrakumar can speak directly to him.

மீனவர்களை சிறீ லங்கா கடற்படை சுட்டுக் கொல்லவில்லை என்று சிறீலங்கா அரசு சொல்கிறது. அப்படியென்றால் மீனவர்கள் நடுக்கடலில் தற்கொலை செய்து கொள்கிறார்களா? இந்திய அரசு சாகிறவன் தமிழன் என்பதால் சும்மா வேடிக்கை பார்க்கிறது. தமிழக அரசு சாகிறவன் ஏழை மீனவன் என்பதால் அலட்சியம் செய்கிறது. எனவேதான் தமிழ் உணர்வாளர்கள் சட்டத்தை தங்கள் கையில் எடுத்துள்ளார்கள் என்று நினைக்கிறேன்.
விடுதலைச் சிறுத்தைகள் ஆர்ப்பாட்டம் செய்ததற்கு பாராட்டுக்கள். ஆனால் விடுதலைச் சிறுத்தைகள் தேர்தல் கூட்டணி வைத்திருக்கும் காங்கிரஸ் – திமுக அரசுகளே மீனவர்கள் சிறீலங்கா கடற்படையினரால் கொல்லப்படுவதற்கு காரணமாகும். இதனை விடுதலைச் சிறுத்தைதகள் கட்சித் தொண்டர்கள் சிந்தித்துப் பார்க்க வேண்டும்.

பரணீதரன் கருத்தோடு நான் முற்றிலும் உடன்படுகிறேன். ஷோபாசக்தி போன்றவர்கள் தங்கள் புலி எதிர்ப்புக்கு சாதீயத்தை கையில் எடுக்கிறார்கள் என்று நினைக்கிறேன். சாதியத்தின் ஆதிக்கத்தை புலிகள் முடிந்த மட்டும் தகர்த்திருக்கிறார்கள். தமிழ்நாடு போலல்லாது தமிழீழத்திலும் புலப்பெயர் நாடுகளிலும் யாரும் சாதி பற்றி பகிரங்கமாகப் பேசமுடியாது. தமி்ழர்கள் மத்தியில் காணப்படும் சாதியத்துக்கு முக்கிய காரணம் இந்து மதந்தான். இந்து வருணாச்சிர அடிப்படையே நாட்டில் தொழில் அடிப்படையிலான பல சாதிகளை உற்பத்தி செய்தது. சாதியை முற்றாக ஒழிக்க வேண்டும் என்றால் இந்து – சைவ சமயத்தை ஒழிக்க வேண்டும். கரையார் தீண்டப்படாதவர்கள் என்பது உண்மையல்ல. தீண்டப்படாதவர்கள் என்போர் கோயிலுக்குள் நுழைய தடைசெய்யப்பட்டவர்கள். அந்தத் தடை கரையாருக்கு இல்லை. அவர்கள் வேளாளருக்கு அடுத்த தட்டில் வைத்துப் பார்க்கப்படுகிறார்கள். யாழ்ப்பாண இராச்சியம் இருந்த காலத்தில் அரச படையில் இருந்தவர்கள் பெரும்பாலும் கரையார்களே.
தமிழ் சமூகத்தில் தொழில் அடிப்படையில்தான் சாதிவேறுபாடு காணப்படுகிறது. கரையாருக்குள்ளும் மீன்பிடிப்போர் கீழாகப் பார்க்கப்படுகிறார்கள். ஆயிரம் ஆண்டுகளுக்கு மேலாக நிலவி வரும் சாதியத்தை ஒரு தலைமுறைக்குள் ஒழித்துவிட முடியாது. புலம் பெயர்நாடுகளில் கலப்புத் திருமணங்கள் நடக்கின்றன. புதிய தலைமுறைகள் சாதியைப் பார்க்கப் போவதில்லை. ஷோபாசக்தி போன்றவர்கள்தான் சாதியை ஒழிக்க வேண்டும் என்ற போர்வையில் சாதியை வளர்க்க நினைக்கிறார்கள். முடிவாக தேவானந்தா வெள்ளாள சாதி இல்லை.

Thank you for the note. I have to 100% agree with you here! I DO think that TNA is doing its best, and it is our responsibility to help in any way we can. As for Eelaventhan ayya’s articles, I’m not sure what to do… Frankly, I wanted to talk to you about this but just haven’t had a chance yet. I did explain to him the other day of our position clearly, and I told him that we are not comfortable publishing any articles that are unnecessarily critical of TNA. Questioning their actions at times is different than accusing them of everything – it is always easier for us to write words throwing mud on others from here. I will make sure that we pay attention in the future.
As for the Tamil New Year issue, when we published Dharman’s article, I thought it may lead to a healthy discussion, but to my shock, as usual, some are just throwing ridiculous accusations. After all ‘we’ are Tamils!
I along with my family will certainly be there at @the temple on Friday. See you there.

A dog irrespective of where the stone hits will raise its legs. Likewise, Eelaventhan has a tendency to have a dig at the TNA despite his ties from 2004 to 2007 as an MP. The reason I suppose is the denial of re-appointment as MP by Vanni and TNA after he lost his seat by absenting himself for more than 3 months.
Eelaventhan himself has sought political asylum in Canada on the grounds that his life is in danger if he returns to Sri Lanka. This is true. So the same person cannot expect those back home to risk their lives. Between 2005 and 2008 not less than 4 Thamil MPs got killed by paramilitary groups with help from government Military intelligence.
Eelaventhan backed the losing horses (TNPF) in the 2010 general elections. Gajendrakumar and Co lost their deposits. He backed Sivajilingam when he entered the presidential race. He also lost his deposit.
So whenever he submits articles it has to be combed for anti-TNA diatribes. Out of respect for him, I don’t want to criticise him publically.
As for my article on New Year 2042 and Pongal, only 2 diehard caste-conscious individuals are beating the dead horse. It is now official that January 141 (Thai 01) is the Thamil New Year. April 14 ( Chiththirai 01) can be continued to be observed as Hindu New Year.
The debate on this subject is now closed. Those who oppose Thai New Year will end up in the bin of history.

அப்பாடா! கருணாநிதிக்கு தந்தி என்றொரு தொலை தொடர்பு கருவி இருப்பதை இப்போததான் கண்டு பிடித்துள்ளார். ஆனாபடியால்தான் வழக்கமான கடித்தத்திற்குப் பதில் தந்தி கொடுத்திருக்கிறார். மின்னஞ்சல் காலத்துக்கு வர அவருக்கு இன்னும் ஒரு சகாப்தம் எடுக்கும். இப்படியானவர்கள் ஆட்சிக் கட்டிலில் இருந்தால் எப்படி தமிழகம் உருப்படும். தமிழன் உருப்படுவான். சிங்களவர்கள் இன்று நேற்றல்ல தொடர்ந்து தமிழக மீனவர்களை காக்கை குருவி போல் சுட்டுக் கொல்கிறான். இதுவரை அய்நூறுக்கும் அதிகமான தமிழக மீனவர்கள் சிங்களக் கடற்படையின் துப்பாக்கிச் சூட்டுக்கு இலக்காகி இறந்துள்ளார்கள். ஒவ்வொரு முறையும் கொலைகளை சிறீலங்கா அரசு மறுத்துவிடுகிறது. இப்போதும் அதைத்தான் செய்திருக்கிறது. முன்னர் வி.புலிகள் மீது பழியை சிறீலங்கா போட்டு வந்தது. இப்போது அதற்கு இடமே இல்லை. தமிழகத்தை ஆளுபவர்களுக்கு சூடு, சொரணை, மானம், வெட்கம் கிடையாது. குறிப்பாக முதல்வர் கருணாநிதிக்கு முதுகெலும்பு இல்லை. வரும் தேர்தலில் தமிழக மக்கள் ஆளும் காங்கிரஸ் – திமுக கூட்டணியை தோற்கடிக்க வேண்டும்.
