Mithila Sri Pathmanathan (Vice President, ITAK Colombo Branch) is conducting a virulent campaign through the media against the party leadership and Ambika Satkunanathan.
Because the party hierarchy refused to nominate her, she says there is no democracy within ITAK! Sumanthiran is making arbitrary decisions.
The founder of the ITAK Thanthai Chelvanayakam in his inaugural speech on December 18, 1949, made it clear that those who aspire for office should not join the party.
“In the past, our weakness was due to the (political) instability of our leaders. Unless we rectify this weakness our party will also fail. The party needs trustworthy members who will pledge like the Irish nationalists ‘we will not accept ‘office’ until we establish an independent Tamil state. There should not be any difference between the objective in our heart and the objective in our speech.
Mithila is a self-seeking individual who knows nothing about the history of the party. It appears she joined the ITAK in the hope of becoming an MP.
She once contested Colombo district as an independent and lost deposit.
Referring to Ambika, Mithila insinuates Ambika is an outsider from Colombo when she herself lives in Colombo.
TRT France interviewed her on Sunday, and I took her to task for going public and giving enough ammunition to our opponents to demean the party. She was interviewed alive by Dan TV Jaffna) a few days ago.
The mistake lies in giving membership to individuals without proper screening.
Also, the laxity on the part in enforcing party discipline.
When Viyalaendran somersaulted, the party hierarchy did not sack him. The party just let him go scot-free!
Now, we witness party members fighting for nomination in the Batticaloa district.
